The paper presents the advantages of complete overdentures supported and retained by intraosseous implants in comparison to traditional complete dentures in which retention is obtained through functional suction. The aim of this work is to present the treatment of two edentulous patients who received overdentures in the mandible and maxilla where retention on intraosseous implants was provided by clip bar devices. Several solutions with metal and plastic matrices mounted on bars are described. The author’s extensive experience of treating maxillary and/or mandibular edentulousness with dental implants indicates a considerable improvement in functional comfort and masticatory efficiency reported by patients that results from the stable retention of complete dentures obtained through the placement of basal elements directly in the alveolar ridge bone.
Key words: overdenture, retention of complete dentures, intraosseous implants, retentive.
