DOI: https://doi.org/10.20883/df.2023.11. Introduction. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurodevelopmental disorder. Symptoms of the disease include muscle tension disorders, problems with movement, and numerous other abnormalities including also pathologies which are found in the oral cavity.
Aim. The aim of the study is to present data on oral health problems in people suffering from cerebral palsy.
Material and methods. The results of scientific research available in journals, published between 2008 and 2023, were analyzed. To search in the PubMed database, keywords corresponding to the topic of the paper were used.
Results. Patients with cerebral palsy often struggle with malocclusion. The occurrence of dental caries is also a significant problem. The presence of developmental defects of enamel, cavities of non-carious origin, salivation, disorders of the temporomandibular joint and traumatic damage to teeth among people affected by this disease is also noted.
Conclusions. People suffering from CP struggle with numerous problems related to oral health. Therefore, the important role of the dentist in the care of this patient population is emphasized.
