Dental Forum. 2024;LII(1):24–28. DOI: https://doi.org/10.20883/df.2024.4. The golden standard during chemo-mechanical root canal preparation is the use of appropriate rinsing agents.
A layer of contamination remains on the walls of the mechanically prepared root canal, which adheres tightly to it and is called the smear layer. The task of rinsing agents is to remove the smear layer and disinfect the prepared root canal before its final filling with gutta percha. The most popular chemical compounds used for rinsing root canals are: sodium hypochlorite, chlorhexidine gluconate, citric acid, sodium biedetate, physiological saline, isopropyl alcohol.
Key words: sodium hypochlorite, chlorhexidine, EDTA, MTAD, HEDP.
