DOI: https://doi.org/10.20883/df.2024.5. r pollution is a significant global health issue, negatively affecting various human body systems. While much research focuses on its impact on the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, increasing evidence suggests its effects on oral health. This article aims to analyze the available scientific studies from 2010 to 2023 regarding the influence of air pollution on human oral health.
The findings confirm a correlation between air pollution exposure and the occurrence of oral diseases. Epidemiological studies indicate that individuals living in regions with high levels of air pollution have a higher risk of developing periodontal diseases and dental caries. These mechanisms may be linked to the induction of oxidative stress and inflammation in oral tissues.
Available evidence suggests a significant impact of air pollution on oral health. Therefore, efforts to reduce air pollution could contribute not only to the overall improvement of public health but also to a decrease in the prevalence of oral diseases.
Key words: air pollution, oral cavity, periodontal diseases, dental caries, oral cancers.
