Dental Forum. 2025;LIII(2):54–57. DOI: https://doi.org/10.20883/df.2025.7. Vitamin D and fluoride play an important role in preventing oral diseases, and their importance in dentistry has evolved over the years. The history of vitamin D research dates back to the early 20th century, when its effects on bone and tooth mineralization and the prevention of rickets were discovered. Over time, it was proven that adequate levels of vitamin D are essential for the proper development of enamel and jawbone structure. Fluoride was introduced into dental practice in the 1930s after its ability to strengthen enamel and reduce the development of caries was observed. Today, fluoride is used in toothpastes, varnishes, and preventative products, while vitamin D has also gained importance for its immunomodulatory effects and periodontal health. Integrating knowledge about both of these nutrients forms the basis of modern preventive dentistry for oral health.
Key words: vitamin D, fluoride, dental prevention, supplementation.
