Leukoplakia is one of the most common potentially malignant disorders within the oral cavity. Its prevalence is estimated at 1–4% of the population and it occurs more frequently in men. This article presents the case of a 42-year-old patient in whom an exophytic lesion located on the marginal gingiva was identified. Based on its clinical appearance, the lesion was suspected to represent verrucous leukoplakia. Histopathological examination confirmed this diagnosis. The aim of this paper is to describe a case of leukoplakia with clinical characteristics and localization consistent with the verrucous form, as well as to discuss the diagnostic criteria outlined in current classifications of such pathological changes. The article also emphasizes the necessity of adhering to current management standards for leukoplakia, which provide the most effective control of the condition and require maintaining a high level of oncologic vigilance.

Key words: oral potentially malignant disorders, leukoplakia, excisional biopsy.
