Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a common disease of the oral mucosa. This problem affects about 5–20% of the population. The etiopathogenesis of the disease is multifactorial and still not fully understood. The related changes cause pain that hinders food intake, speech and swallowing. The treatment is mainly symptomatic. Its aim is to relieve pain and accelerate healing. It can be divided into local and systemic. The paper describes contemporary views on RAS treatment depending on the severity of the symptoms. Local terapeutic agents available in Polish pharmacies which can be applied in treating the diseases are discussed. Their composition and dosage are analyzed. The topic of systemic and laser therapy is also presented.
