The paper presents the definition, diagnosis and therapy of tinnitus on the basis of selected and current literature. Tinnitus involves the inconvenient sound impressions received by the patient in one or both ears in the absence of an acoustic stimulus in the environment. They may coexist with various disease processes that threaten the sufferer's physical health and well-being, often adversely affecting the quality of life not only of the patient but also the family. This paper presents the problem of tinnitus, the probability of which increases with age. This is a complex, multidimensional process which is related to a variety of factors. The article describes the etiological factors that may affect tinnitus. It also presents the relationship between tinnitus and disorders of the temporomandibular joint on the basis of the literature. The increase in muscle tension results in a significant increase in the burden on the temporomandibular joint, thereby overloading numerous tissues and muscles. In the final part of this article, attention has been paid to modern methods of treatment
