Introduction. Early orthodontic treatment is important for the proper development of a child. The aim of the study was to evaluate two groups of children with dento occlusial disorders in the anterior part of the maxilla and mandible treated with two different options for orthodontic treatment. Material and methods: Two groups of 50 patients, mean age 9 years and 6 months. Group I – treated with fixed appliances and facemask, group II – treated with the use a Schwarz plate. Based on photographic documentation the parameters describing the facial aesthetic and occlusal condition were analyzed: before treatment (T1) and after treatment (T2). The naso labial angle and stair lip were assesed. Results: As a result of the applied orthodontic treatment a decrease in the naso labial angle was observed in both groups. In group I, treated with braces and a face mask, the average size of the naso labial angle decreased from 116.58° to 110.06°; while in group II, treated with a Schwarz plate, it decreased from 113.27° to 110.94°. In both groups, as a result of the treatment, there was an increased incidence in the category considered to be correct – moderate labial step. Conclusions: Early treatment for disorders of dental occlusion brings measurable therapeutic effects – and from the point of view of bioethics a professional doctor is justified in doing so regardless of the orthodontic treatment options.

Key words: early orthodontic treatment, naso‑labial angle, step labial.
